Laser Hair Removal in Brickell Miami with Avalon Medical Spa – Stop Waxing and Start Relaxing

Laser hair removal’s success is 30% technology and 70% technique. Avalon Medical Spa has a decade of experience in hair removal and apply these techniques to provide you with the best possible result. Men and women spend countless hours and money on temporary hair removal methods such as shaving, waxing, chemical depilatories and tweezing. These outdated methods cause ingrown hair, razor bumps, irrigation and painful cuts. Imagine having smooth skin, morning and night, without ever having to shave or wax again! And then…the laser gods smiled up us from Mount LaserBeam and voila came the machine for laser hair removal to Brickell Miami!

Laser hair removal is more popular then waxing and shaving because:

  • Laser hair removal is non-invasive and non-surgical.
  • Laser hair removal selectively targets dark, coarse hairs while leaving surrounding skin undamaged.
  • Laser hair removal is fast – each laser pulse takes only a fraction of a second.
  • Laser hair removal results in softer, smoother skin.
  • Laser hair removal can effectively target large areas of hair.

Laser hair removal is the most effective, long lasting method to reduce unwanted hair on any part of the body. At our Miami clinic we offer laser hair removal treatments with Elos Emax Technology which uses radio frequency energy to safely treat patients of all skin colors. The RF energy uses light to find and heat up the hair follicle. The heat generated by this process damages the follicle and prevents it from growing hair in the future.

Laser hair removal can be performed of any part of the body, with the exception of the eye area. The laser works on more than one follicle at a time, larger areas like the back, arms or legs are just as easily treatable as smaller areas like the upper lip or bikini line. Patients with darker hair color and lighter skin tones generally get faster results then patients with darker skin tones. Since the laser is attracted to the pigment of the hair follicle, patients with blonde, red or white hair colors are not suitable for this procedure. Depending on the density of the hair follicles and the color of the skin tone a series of 6-9 treatments are recommended to achieve 80-95% reduction of hair.

How does Laser Hair Removal work and What is the Science behind it?

Our clients seeking laser hair removal in Brickell Miami are always ask us about the technical side of laser hair removal and how it actual works. It may seem like magic, but there is some science behind it. Avalon Medical Spa educates our clients on the technical stuff to make sure the results This section of our website will help clarify some of these concerns by explaining the science behind laser hair removal and the biology of our body.

Our hair growth has three cycles: the growing stage, the shedding stage and the resting stage. The diagram below illustrates these stages. Each hair follicle is independent from one another, meaning they all aren’t going through the same phase at the same time. Each hair follicles goes through these stages in a non-synchronized fashion and the hair on some body parts changes cycles much faster then others. About 15-20% of our hair is usually in the actively growing stage at any given moment. The laser is only able to treat the hair in the actively growing stage.

The 3 Stages of hair growth for laser hair removal in Miami

The laser emits light, which is converted into heat energy once it reaches the skin. The hair follicle absorbs this heat which causes it to disrupt the regular hair growth cycle. Darker hair absorbs heat much better then blonde or white hair, which is why patients with lighter hair color are not the best candidates for laser hair removal treatments. Darker skin tones also absorb the heat from the laser and therefore require lower settings in order to prevent any complications. Patients with a darker complexion usually require additional treatments to achieve the desired effect.

Avalon Medical Spa uses advanced patented Elos technology which combines the traditional light energy with radio frequency energy. The combination of these two modalities allows more energy to be targeted and absorbed at the root of the hair without affecting the surrounding tissue. This enhances the overall safety of the procedure. Since Elos uses radio frequency (RF) energy, it allows us to use less light energy therefore making this hair removal method one the safest on the market for patients with darker tan skin tones – the ideal Miami patient!

This technology is also more efficient for light, fine and deeper hair follicles since it is colorblind and is attracted to the conductivity property of the hair follicle and not just its melanin. The radio frequency does not interact with the melanin or the color of the skin, allowing us to safely treat patients of all skin types with less risk then traditional laser hair removal methods.

Laser Hair Removal Candidacy – Now available for Light and Dark Skin!

Almost everyone is a candidate for laser hair removal. The laser emits light and heat, which is absorbed by the hair follicle, so as long as the hair has pigment then it will be successfully treated and removed. The “ideal” patient has light skin and dark hair. On average these clients need approximately 6 treatments to achieve 80 – 95% reduction of hair. Darker skin tones are now able to get amazing results with laser hair removal but may require additional treatments since the skin tends to absorb some of the heat from the laser. In order to prevent complications, Avalon Medical Spa applies less light energy to ensure the safety of our clients. Patients that have little to no pigment in the hair, such as white, red or blonde do not respond well to laser hair removal treatments. Some of the post popular laser hair removal  areas include the lip, chin, underarms, bikini, full Brazilian, arms and legs. But in all reality, if you have unwanted hair on any part of your body (except for the scalp) laser hair removal should not only be the best, but the only option to remove it!

How Many Laser Hair Removal Sessions Are Needed?

The hair growth cycle consist of three stages: the growing stage, the resting stage and the shedding stage. The laser is only able to treat the hair follicle in the actively growing cycle, which is only about 15% of hair follicles at any given time. Depending on the part of the body, the cycles change every 4-8 weeks. The hair on the face tends to change cycles every 4-6 weeks while the hair below the neck usually changes cycles a little slower, every 6-8 weeks. Depending on the skin tone and the density of the hair follicles, patients require 6-9 treatments to achieve 70-90% reduction of hair.

How long does laser hair removal take?

Laser hair removal appointment time varies depending on the size and number of areas you are thinking of getting treated. This means that the appointments can be done in as little as 15 minutes to a couple of hours. We provide protective eye wear to all of our clients to ensure safety and compliance. Once the laser fires, you will feel a slight stinging sensation that feels like a a small bite or snapping of a rubber band. Avalon Medical Spa uses topical cooling methods to ensure your comfort, but don’t worry, the pain is very tolerable and we have been told that waxing actually hurts a lot more! Certain body parts respond better and faster and results may vary. The bikini and lip tend to be hormonal areas and may require additional treatments for the desired hair reduction.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

Over time, as our body changes it can produce new hair follicles that have not been treated in the past and some patients will require an occasional touch up to maintain their results. Hormonal changes such as pregnancy, menopause and certain medications can also trigger unexpected hair growth.

How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal?

In order to get laser hair removal in Miami, patents have to be mindful of the damaging rays of the sun.
In order to prepare for your first treatment we ask that clients abstain from exposure to the sun, tanning bed and tanning creams for at least two weeks prior to the appointment. Waxing, tweezing and using depilatory creams is also not recommended for at least 4 weeks prior to the treatment. In order to create closer contact between the laser and skin we ask that clients shave the treatment area the day of their appointment.

What to Expect During Laser Hair Removal?

During the treatment the laser technician will apply a cold gel on the treatment area. After determining the best settings for your skin tone, the laser is applied directly on the skin and a pulse is fired. The laser pulse can be best compared to the snapping of a rubber band against the skin with the addition of heat. Laser hair removal session only is done  in a Miami minute, but it usually takes 15-60 minutes to complete, depending on the size of the body area.

How much does Laser Hair Removal Cost?

The price for laser hair removal depends on the area you are considering getting treated and the amount of time it takes to perform the procedure. Since laser hair removal requires a minimum of six treatments, Avalon Medical Spa offers package prices and specials to better fit your budget.

What Is the Recovery Like after Laser Hair Removal?

Clients are able to return to their regular activities after the treatment and should not experience any lasting discomfort. The skin may experience some redness and warmth, which should subside within a couple of hours. We strongly recommend that clients avoid exposure to the sun, steam rooms, saunas, tanning beds and hot tubs for 24 after the treatment to avoid any complications.

What are the risks associated with Laser Hair Removal?

The most common side effects can include minor skin irritation such as discomfort, redness. This usually subsides within a couple of hours after the procedure. Laser hair removal can also cause a temporary darkening or lightening of the skin. Hypo-Pigmentation (skin lightening) usually occurs with patients with an olive or darker complexion. Very rarely blistering, crusting, scarring or other changes in the skin texture may appear. Avalon Medical Spa takes every single precaution to make sure that you receive the best laser hair removal in Brickell Miami without any complications or side effects.

How does Laser Hair Removal differ from other hair removal techniques?

Laser Hair Removal is a more permanent solution to hair free skin than traditional methods such as waxing, shaving, tweezing and depilatories. For long-term hair removal that is more permanent and does not require maintenance treatments, electrolysis is the only solution. Electrolysis is known to be slow and very painful. In electrolysis, an electric current passes through a needle to destroy the hair root’s ability to grow. This process can take years to complete with a higher risk of infection, scarring, electric shock and pitting. This makes laser hair removal in Miami one of the most sought after procedures.
