When I laser in the SUMMER!
Summer is finally here! Longer days, sunshine and bathing suits are an inevitable part of summer. A hairy back or a hairy bikini area are defiantly not. Thousands of Miami residents have turned to Avalon Medical Spa for laser hair removal in the summer to finally throw away their razor and enjoy smooth skin all year around. But the summer time is usually not the best time to commit to laser hair removal.
In order to prepare for the bating suit season, many start by hitting the gym right after the winter holidays. Laser hair removal in the summer should be treated the same way. Science has shown that in order to get the best results with laser hair removal, a minimum of at least six sessions are recommended. The reason that a series of treatments in required is because our hair grows in cycles. The three cycles of hair growth consist of the growing, shedding and sleeping. Not all of our hair is in the same cycle all the time. Thankfully, this isn’t the case. If it was, then we would either all look like Chewbaka with an uncontrollable about of hair growth all over our body or be completely bald.
How does this affect my laser hair removal in the summer?
The laser is only able to treat to hair in the actively growing cycle. This is when the shaft of the hair follicle is attached to the bulb. Depending on the part of the body, about 15% of our hair is in the actively growing cycle at any given moment. With each laser hair removal session, our clients usually achieve anywhere from 10-15% reduction of hair.
The color of the skin also plays a large role in determining the amount of sessions needed. The laser is attracted to the pigment of the hair follicle. However, it is also attracted to the pigment that is found in the skin. Generally, the lighter the skin and the darker the hair, the faster the results. Tan skin has that beautiful dark glow due to the larger amount of melanin that is activated by the sun rays. So the laser will inedibly pick up the melanin in the skin as well.
So what now?
This absolutely does not mean that laser hair removal in the summer is not possible. Not everyone who lives in Miami enjoys outdoor activities and are able to stay out of the sun all together. If you love the beach as much as we do, then staying out of the sun for at least 2 weeks will allow the tan to fade away. Then, our laser specialists will be able to use the best settings for your skin type. After your laser hair removal in the summer appointment, avoid any activities that would elevate your body temperature. Sun bathing, working out, hot showers and steam rooms should be avoided for 48 hours.
Laser hair removal in the summer is defiantly possible! Avalon Medical Spa is proud to offer a lifetime guarantee our laser hair removal services in Miami. All of our touch up and maintenance treatments are 50% off from the original package price. So even if your skin got a little darker during the summer months, don’t worry.
